Many factors impact your lifetime health - directly and indirectly. From heart disease to allergies, metabolism, food culture, mental health, genetics and epigenetics, microbiome/s, immune systems and infection, exposure to childhood toxins, generational nutrition and even generational trauma events. Understanding these patterns across time or even across generations, is crucial in understanding where you're at so you can build the healthiest life possible - for you and your family.

Since the beginning of modern medicine, family doctors saw and treated 3+ generations of a family and could intuitively provide predictive context on lifetime health. They were literal human algorithms for health. But today, as public information access grows and provider access shrinks - primary care is undergoing a complete restructuring and redefining. Family medicine physicians are retiring on mass, residency placements are empty, and most young people don’t have a PCP.

Today, patients often prioritize convenience and Google, or ChatGPT, their way into care solutions. So much so that we’ve essentially surpassed the “analog human” or single-provider care structure our health systems were built on. Today, we probably see over 100 different doctors in our lifetime - mostly without connection. Lifetime health maps don’t exist and each of these point-in-time physicians can only access quick snapshots of your health journey in 8-minute visits. This leaves people falling through giant holes in patient care or bouncing between parallel tools, providers and specialists at the same time while no one has a strong, clear foundation of your whole health story in context - including you.

Even with increasing, mainstream access to health devices, techniques, and diagnostic tests we’re losing understanding in our health journeys. We can get at-home lab tests delivered overnight and yet we face a crisis-level epidemic in preemptive health outcomes. We have access so much information - it's overwhelming, and at the same time we have little ability to edit and filter only what's relevant for us based on expert knowledge of our history and health.

There isn’t a health story, over time; prediction requires context and history.

Even with increasing, mainstream access to health devices, techniques, and diagnostic tests we’re losing connection in our health journeys. We can get an at-home lab tests delivered overnight and yet we face an epidemic and crisis in health. In a world of overwhelming information and underwhelming relevancy - we lose context and precise, predictive power over our health. Technology should empower and support our understanding.

Medicine is less predictive and personalized for us than it was for our parents. We’ve gone backwards in our healthcare experiences, despite god-like technology.

My father, Michel Jean Giraud, was a way-finder. An explorer. A sailor. He navigated and crossed nearly every ocean on earth, some solo. With the help of stars, ocean currents, maps and a history of daily logs - he knew where he'd been, where he was, and where he was going.

At Trellis, powering generational health is core to our DNA.

We envision a future where your health management is no longer just reactive. It’s preemptive, personalized, and precise. Health compounds over time and outcomes concentrate in certain pivotal life stages. It's often in these pivotal health phases where we find big opportunities for lifetime health trajectory changes - like pregnancy, postpartum, or early childhood health.

There are three core pillars to the idea of generational health.

  1. Leveraging the knowledge of past generations to enrich your understanding of your health, from day one.

  2. Using this holistic knowledge of your health at any point in your life to course-correct, with precision. Optimizing for "healthspan" drives a longer lifespan, especially when we can intervene early in pivotal health phases.

  3. Literally building generational health in your family. We can craft a medical system that has better statistics for our children than we had, and we can exponentially increase our knowledge of women's health in the meantime.

Navigating your health journey is simply a sophisticated from of way finding. Past, present and future.

At Trellis, powering generational health is integral to our core DNA. As this north star philosophy continues evolving we want to share our vision of what it means.

We envision a future where your health management is no longer just reactive. It’s proactive, preemptive, personalized, and precise while perpetually improving over time. It compounds and concentrates over time with pivotal life stages where everything is intimately connected and the biggest opportunities for trajectory changes can be made for lifetime, generational health - like pregnancy, postpartum, and early childhood health.

There are three core pillars to the idea of generational health. We believe this is the future of Precision Medicine, or Medicine 3.0 as we like to call it.

100 billion people have walked this planet. Nearly 8 billion of them are alive today. Each with a unique health story often buried in family history. Each knows something or has experienced things the others can't fathom. But, health is universal across generations and geographies; and this knowledge compounds in families over time. By understanding the health of past generations, we get to access our baselines and individual foundation of health.

Despite this, modern healthcare often robs people of their health history. Patients rarely know their blood type, let alone are able to see their past decade of lab trends and don't have forward looking health models from deep family histories. Knowing your medical history, epigenetic baselines, family health predispositions, genetic information, environmental factors, and lifestyle touch points helps guide you towards optimal health, and improve communication with your care team. At it’s most basic level - this information makes your feel like an owner of your lifelong health story. And, as we know, owners take better care of their belongings than renters.

By connecting the dots in our fast-paced, transactional care environment, we can provide hyper-personal, individual health models for preemptive action in collaboration with your doctors. This is precision medicine at it's finest.

100 billion people have walked this planet. Nearly 8 billion of them are alive today. Each with a unique health story often buried in family history. Each knows something or has experiences things the other can't fathom. But, health is universal across generations and geographies and this specific knowledge is compounded in families. By understanding the health of past generations, we derive our baselines and uniquely individual foundation of knowledge allowing us to better navigate our present and future health with less effort and more precision.

Despite this, modern healthcare systems often rob people of their health history. Patients rarely know their blood type, let alone their past decade of labs trends or deep family health histories. Health systems fail to provide patients with an accurate, precise map for the present, leaving them unprepared to navigate their future health. Medical history, family medical data, genetic information, environmental factors, and lifestyle touch points help you understand and guide you towards optimal health, and improve collaboration with your care team. At it’s most basic level - this makes your feel like an owner of your health story. And, as we know, owners take better care of their belongings than renters.

All of this information used to live in the pattern-recognition brain of a family doctor, and can now be codified into pattern-detecting algorithms. By connecting the dots, we can provide hyper-personal, individual insights to enable preemptive action against potential health issues. This is precision medicine at it's finest.

Our health is a complex tapestry woven from the threads of our history, genetics, epigenetics, habits, and environments. Each strand, whether it be stress, genetics, chemistry or the places we live, pre-loads our health profiles. This is intuitive but not always actively considered day-to-day or in our medical care.

Longevity transcends the notion of a solitary number to "win". It’s about a life rich with love, shared experiences, joy and meaningful connections. The feeling of electricity in your veins and trust in your body, despite a number. This joy in moments is what's special about being human - we want as many moments as we can get - with our children - our friends - our lovers. Imagine experiencing the same vitality and vibrancy of life spending time with your grandchildren or pursuing your passions at 85 as you did in your twenties and thirties.

We believe longevity is about more than simply extending lifespan - it's about optimizing your journey and experiencing a lifetime of good health. A longer lifespan is merely a by-product of strong health management that compounds over years and the goal should be to make it so easy for anyone to enhance their future years of health – physical, mental, and emotional.

The key to achieving this lies in deep understanding of your personal health, minimizing negative health load and disease, and course correcting as early as possible when things get out of balance.

You don't wake up overnight with metabolic diseases like diabetes, autoimmune diseases or cardiovascular disease, or cancer. These often take years to develop - and are sometimes triggered in pregnancy, postpartum, or perimenopause! This understanding of pre-loaded risks and specific health events in life (like an infection, a pregnancy complication, or an exposure) paired with your current insights in real-time (like sleep, exercise, labs, symptoms) allows us to build real-time health models for you, based on you. It’s incredibly difficult to "bio-hack" your way into better health without your historical bio-model because humans are complex, and what works for you, might not work for someone else.

We believe longevity is about more than simply extending lifespan - it's about optimizing your journey and experiencing a lifetime of good health. A longer lifespan is merely a by-product of strong health management and the goal should be to enhance every facet of health – physical, mental, and emotional – creating a persistent, thriving state that lasts for decades.

The key to achieving this lies in deep understanding of your personal health story – past, present, and future.

With the path to optimal health as unique as your fingerprint, individualized histories drive personalized care to not only prevent disease but also enhance quality of life today. This understanding of historical health paired with current insights allows alignment with future health goals - an intersection of life & science specific to your individual aspirations for living. Plus, it’s incredibly difficult to "bio-hack" your way into better health without your historical bio-model because humans are complex, and what works for you, might not work for someone else.

We often ask ourselves: Are we being good ancestors? [Jonas Salk]

Salk believed that the greatest responsibility of a generation is to ensure that we leave behind a world better than the one we inherited. This philosophy drives our commitment beyond improving healthcare just for today, but for countless tomorrows; for building a legacy for generations to come. Parenthood is a pivotal, beautiful and acute transition point from descendent to ancestor. Our job and purpose as a parent is to give our children, our sons and daughters everything we possibly can to set them up for success in this life - to be a good ancestor.

We live in a unique time in history where we can do that for our children. We can develop more accurate predictive health models, implement preemptive measures, and tailor interventions with precision. This is the century of biology.

For parents; our job is to give our children the best possible footing for good health and success in life - to be a good ancestor.

Through technology-driven, continuous improvement we can collectively leverage the transformative power of data, revolutionize collaborative care management, and ensure healthcare becomes more effective and more equitable with each generation to come. By analyzing vast amounts of health data across generations patients can uncover nuanced patterns, develop more accurate predictive models, implement preemptive measures for potential health concerns, and tailor interventions with unprecedented precision.

We're excited by the future of health. What if, we had our own private personal health models that learned over time, over generations. What if, our daughters had correct prescription dosing guidelines based on their biology, what if we had preemptive measures and solutions for fertility for men and women, early solutions for endometriosis or PCOS, if millions of our descendants didn't have autoimmune conditions and more.

What if we had data-driven, right sized healthcare - whether that's a personalized article with tips, a text message with a human care provider, an automated script refill with one click, to a telehealth specialist visit or in-person care.
